New Kitchen, Dover Gardens
Transformation Required
As soon as we saw photos that Jenny sent through of the tired, old kitchen that they inherited with their recent house purchase, we were excited by the potential of the space and the incredible transformation that we knew was possible!
Jenny already had some wonderful ideas for the space after living there for a number of months, including knocking down the wall between the existing kitchen and dining room to open up the area.
With a family of four, the space needed to be flexible for their day-to-day needs, while also being able to accommodate overseas family coming to stay periodically and to enable them to host other families for dinner parties and play dates. This was achieved with a more casual breakfast bar area for everyday use, and a more formal dining space to host larger groups, including a long bench seat with push-to-open drawers below for additional storage.
As the laundry entrance comes off the kitchen, it was important that the cabinetry continued into this space for aesthetics, but also to add much needed storage and functionality. The style of home lent itself to a kitchen with character, as opposed to something with an ultra modern, sleek finish, which is why Jenny decided on the profiled thermolaminated fronts and decorative cornice capping across the bulkheads. Thermolaminated is also a more durable option with young children in the house, compared with a 2pac painted finish.
The all-white cabinetry and white stone benchtops have helped to lighten the space, which is now the most inviting part of the home to spend time in … a place where many family memories will be made over coming years. It is incredibly rewarding for us to see how much the whole family is enjoying their newly transformed spaces—it makes all the hard work worth it for the end result!

Chosen Materials
The solution was achieved using Polytec ‘Classic White’ thermolaminted profiled profiled doors, drawers and panels. Feature pine overhead shelves in satin 2pac finish. Benchtops are in Caesarstone ‘Organic White’ polished finish, with a 40mm mitred edge. Combination of polished chrome knobs and handles, and Blum soft closing hardware is used throughout.
Having bought an old house we soon realised that the tiny corner kitchen was unsafe with small children and not functional. It was also a very dark and depressing space. I felt that it was so bad that no company would want to touch it. From my first conversation with Joel and Alison at Transform-A-Space through to sending pictures and then a visit to inspect the kitchen they were positive and enthusiastic about the transformation that could be achieved. I felt listened to at every step of the planning process. They shared their wealth of knowledge and expertise and we had the same vision for what is now a beautiful, light filled, open plan kitchen and dining room that I love. It is now a very happy space thanks to Joel and Alison. Joel’s commitment to perfection is inspiring. Joel and Alison are a great team and I now dream of having my whole house transformed by Transform-A-Space!
